Brno Exhibition Centre

The Brno Exhibition Centre is one of the largest complexes of its kind in Europe, comparable in area to the city's historic centre. Yet today, large parts of it are underused, inaccessible and perceived as a closed-off island in relation to the surrounding city.

Our aim was to overcome this barrier and transform the exhibition grounds into an open, vibrant and multifunctional urban quarter that preserves and strengthens the trade fair function while also offering new opportunities for housing, work and leisure.

The principal strategy of the design is the revitalisation of the heterogeneous Exhibition Centre site by means of an urban grid. This grid creates a structure that builds on the contextually valuable buildings and axes of the complex, significantly expands the number of entry points into the site, clarifies the spatial definition through a hierarchical network of public spaces, and provides plots for future gradual development.
